Neil Patrick Harris is the Strip’s newest high-wire star

In Las Vegas for the weekend, “How I Met Your Mother” star and magic fanatic Neil Patrick Harris risked life and limb balancing on the high wire at “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace.

The actor, who admits that magic, circus conjuring and carnival attractions are his top hobby, attended Sunday night’s performance of “Absinthe” starring the Gazillionaire, Penny Pibbets, Melody Sweets and Angel Porrino. Afterward, Neil and his partner David Burtka went backstage, and it was an instant friendship with the performers.

“This was the hardest I’ve laughed in a decade,” Neil said. “I just wish I could be up there, too.” With that, the circus performers invited him to take a walk in the sky on the high wire, and, to everybody’s surprise, Neil agreed.

First, he tested the high wire with a circular platform inches below in case of a slip, but then he had it taken away and went for the full act 50 feet above the theater floor. “Fantastic and incredible,” he said safely back on the ground. “Once in a lifetime.”

While in Las Vegas, Neil and David also attended “Zumanity — The Sensual Side of Cirque du Soleil” at New York-New York. They visited with the cast before the show and on their way into the theater enjoyed frozen Zumanitini cocktails. Neil, David and friends also dined at Comme Ca in the Cosmopolitan. Before leaving dinner, he tweeted, “At Comme Ca, a fantastic restaurant in Las Vegas. Why do I always tweet about food?”
